This guide explains what "scans" mean in ProductChimp, how they are counted against your monthly limits, and how different subscription tiers (Starter, Basic, Pro, Teams) handle these limits.
What are Scans in ProductChimp?
A scan occurs whenever you view ProductChimp’s data analysis for a specific product.
Common actions that count as a scan include:
Web Search: Directly searching for a specific product inside the ProductChimp web platform.
Mobile App: Scanning a product's barcode using the ProductChimp phone app or directly searching for a specific product inside the app.
Chrome Extension: When the ProductChimp analysis panel automatically loads and pulls data on an Amazon product page.
The 4-Hour Rule
To help you maximize your limits, every time you view a product, it will appear in your history, but ProductChimp only counts the lookup of a specific ASIN once every 4 hours. Checking the same product multiple times within a single day will not drain your monthly scan allowance.
Understanding Your Plan’s Scan Limits
Depending on your subscription tier, you are allocated a set number of scans per month:
Starter ($9/mo): 200 scans per month
Basic ($19/mo): 1,500 scans per month
Pro ($27/mo): Unlimited scans per month
Teams ($79/mo): Unlimited scans per month
How and When Do Counts Reset?
For users on limited plans (like the Starter or Basic packages), your scan allowance resets based on your billing cycle:
Monthly & Annual Subscriptions: Your search allowance resets on the same day each billing cycle. For example, if your subscription started on the 14th, your searches will renew on the 14th of each month. This applies to both monthly and annual plans.
FAQs
If I look at the same product three times in one afternoon, does it count as 3 scans?
No, as long as all three searches happened within the last 4 hours. ProductChimp only counts a single ASIN lookup once every 4 hours. It will show up in your history each time, but it will only consume 1 scan from your monthly limit.
What happens if I run out of scans on the Starter or Basic plan?
If you reach your scan cap (200 for Starter, 1,500 for Basic) before your reset date, you will need to wait for your billing cycle to reset or upgrade to a higher tier like Pro or Teams to get unlimited scans.
Do the Pro and Teams plans have any scan restrictions?
No. Both the Pro and Teams plans offer Unlimited scans per month, meaning you do not have to worry about your lookup counts resetting.
Does installing the Chrome extension or Phone app on multiple devices give me more scans?
No, your scan limits are tied directly to your account type, not the number of device installs. For example, the Starter plan allows 1 phone app install and 1 Chrome extension install with a shared pool of 200 scans.
